Mount Batur Bali

Mount Batur is one of the ancient mountains on the island of Bali, precisely in Kintamani District, Bangli Regency, Bali, Indonesia. There are 2 active volcanoes on the island of Bali, namely Mount Batur and Mount Agung. The two mountains have special features for the Balinese people.

Public Bali considers the two mountains as phallus buana or natural phallus which has an important meaning in the religious life of the Balinese people. Mount Agung is considered the embodiment of Purusha (male) and Mount Batur is considered the embodiment of Pradhana (female).

Preposition Purusha and Pradhana can not be separated because it always synergizes to give birth to fertility and create prosperity for the community.

Mount Batur is older than Mount Agung, where the two mountains have a close bond, namely Mount Agung appeared in the "lap" of Mount Batur after it erupted thousands of years ago.

Caldera

Located northwest of Mount Agung, Mount Batur has a caldera measuring 13.8 x 10 km and is one of the largest in the world. The height of the caldera embankment ranges from 1267 m - 2152 m (peak of Mount Abang).

Inside Caldera I, Caldera II is formed which is a circular redudention with a diameter of approximately 7 km. The base of Caldera II is located between 120-300 m lower than the Kintamani Step (the base of Caldera I).

Inside the caldera there is a crescent-shaped lake that occupies the southeastern part which is about 7.5 km long, the maximum width is 2.5 km, the circumference is about 22 km and the area is about 16 km2 called Lake Batur. The Mount Batur caldera is thought to have been formed by two major eruptions, 29,300 and 20,150 years ago.

Eruption

From 1804 to 2005, Mount Batur has erupted 26 times. The most devastating eruption of Mount Batur occurred on August 2 and ended on September 21, 1926.

This temple is still famous as the most beautiful temple in Bali.

This temple is dedicated to honor "Goddess Danu" namely the goddess of water rulers, as is the case with the temples on Lake Bratan as well. dedicated to worship "Goddess Danu"

Attractiveness

The Mount Batur area is famous as a mainstay tourist attraction in Bangli Regency. It is said that according to the story in the Lontar Susana Bali, Mount Batur is the peak of Mount Mahameru who was moved by Batara Pasupati to be used as Sthana Betari Danuh (Dewi Danu's palace).
